Clinical Pharmacy Programme

SGPS, in partnership with its member practices, has applied to NHS England's innovative Clinical Pharmacy Programme.

The funding for the programme has been successful. 60% NHSE funding in year 1 will see the introduction of Six full time clinical pharmacists in all member practices in Sutton. The funding is over a Three Year period and practices will need to contribute during the duration of programme. 40% in One Year, 60% in Two Year, 80% in Three Year and 100% going forward.

The Clinical Pharmacists will be provided Non-Medical Prescribing training as well as a place on the highly sought-after Centre for Pharmacy Postgraduate Education (CPPE) 18-month General Practice Pharmacist Training Pathway (GPPTP).

The introduction of these clinicians into Sutton will be the first of many planned changes in a progressive programme of work to introduce alternative, but highly skilled and qualified, Primary Care clinicians into the General Practice team to support care delivery.

It is envisaged that the evolution of the General Practice team will not only lead to more effective care delivery for patients, but also be a catalyst to reducing GP workload to ensure sustainability within the local healthcare system.
